The 12 Days of Christmas in NYC

December 5, 2019

Last year, I brought you “25 Days of Christmas in NYC!” which detailed 25 toddler-friendly activities for every day of the Christmas season. This year, I decided to switch it up with a little play on the song “The 12 Days of Christmas!” Well, here is my well-rounded interpretation of what The 12 Days of Christmas looks like as a mom in New York City! Some kid-friendly, some breaks for mama, just a good time to be had all around! Technically, the twelve days of Christmas start on Christmas Day, but I’m going to be completing my list leading up to the big day! Do these fun activities whenever you want, and in whatever order your festive little heart desires. Enjoy!

On the Twelfth Day of Christmas my true love gave to me…

TWELVE DRUMMERS DRUMMING

Where can you find a live drummer in New York City? And I’m not talking about late-night at an adults-only concert. Grab your kids and take them to Blooming Bébé! Children’s classes get an upgrade in this dance and music series put on by an experienced dance instructor featuring a talented live drummer! There are drums for your kiddos to play around on too! We enjoy these classes all year long…

ELEVEN PIPERS PIPING

Ditch the kids and get cozy with a drink at a true Scottish pub. Visit Deacon Brodie’s Tavern and hope to hear some bagpipers…

TEN LORDS-A-LEAPING

Nothing gets lords-a-leaping like Happy Hour! Find a festive one and mingle with the post-work crowd. I’ll be heading to Pete’s Tavern for some good ol’ libations.

NINE LADIES DANCING

The most obvious, but also most special, exciting, Christmassy choice: The Christmas Spectacular starring the Radio City Rockettes. No show is as feel-good as this one when it comes to Christmas! Get in the spirit and watch a lot more than nine fabulous ladies dancing!

EIGHT MAIDS-A-MILKING

Here’s one that’s a little different for you. Now that there’s a new baby in our family, I try to make one-on-one time for my toddler. In honor of milk (and cookies–Santa’s favorite) we’ve decided to have a little mother-daughter date at the Milk & Cookies Kids Spa in the Upper East Side! Littlest loves can get a special mani and enjoy some fresh-baked cookies with milk!

SEVEN SWANS-A-SWIMMING

Nobody is swimming, everything is FROZEN! Get a New York City movie theater experience and take your little one to see Frozen 2!

SIX GEESE-A-LAYING

Get out in New York City nature for a wintery stroll and birdwatching! Enjoy the beauty of Central Park, grab some hot cocoa, and maybe take a spin around the famed Wollman Rink!

FIVE GOLDEN RINGS

What better place to find gold everything and all the rings than Fifth Avenue! Take a walk through NYC’s shopping mecca while observing some of the most decadent holiday storefronts in all the land. Cartier, anyone?

FOUR CALLING BIRDS

The American Museum of Natural History is hands down in my top ten places to visit in New York City. It’s in my favorite neighborhood, picturesque, and fun for all ages. I especially love going during Christmastime. Their Origami Holiday Tree is such a unique twist on a typical lit display. And, you’ll see a lot more than four birds around these parts. Every shape and size (even some origami ones)…

THREE FRENCH HENS

Get a babysitter, get dressed up, and go on a romantic Christmastime date! New York City is beautiful this time of year, with crisp air, snow flurries, and holiday decorations galore. Stroll the streets and end up at one of NYC’s many, amazing French restaurants, such as Benoit NYC.

TWO TURTLE DOVES

Chocolate and Christmas are synonymous, in my opinion. Celebrate the second day of Christmas with some of the best chocolate turtles in the city! Li-Lac Chocolates is Manhattan’s oldest chocolate house. ‘Tis the season to indulge!

AND A PARTRIDGE IN A PEAR TREE!

Visit the one and only Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree! The tree will be lit Wednesday evening on December 4th, so anytime after that, until January 17th, you’ll be able to observe the most famous Christmas tree of them all!

And there you have it, my crazy interpretation of the 12 Days of Christmas! Hope you get inspired to do something out-of-the-box with your kids, husband, loved ones, or simply yourself. Visit this post again for pictures that will be added as I check each activity off my list, and follow along in my Instagram stories! Have a safe and joyous holiday season!
