I have always sought out the most unique restaurant experiences and adventures. So much so, that from the beginning of my relationship with my husband, I’ve planned little surprises that I’ve called our Bachelor Dates (sometimes complete with date cards—extra, I know.) If you’re a fan of the show, you know these experiences are either over-the top thrills, restaurants and locations that exude romance, or are one-of-a-kind concepts. Here are some stand-outs:
Near
Over-the-Top Romance at these NYC Restaurants:
One if by Land, Two if by Sea. Candlelit dinner and long-stem roses. I think we witnessed three people get engaged.
The River Cafe. A piano playing, gorgeous flowers, a fine dress code, and located under the Brooklyn Bridge, it has breathtaking views of Manhattan. (I was apparently so lost in the experience that I didn’t take pictures…)
Unique NYC Restaurant Experiences:
Sushi by Bou, Suite 1001. Grab a room key and head up to a hotel room turned high-end sushi bar. The bar serves four at a time, but stays lively with a mini lounge and eclectic terrace.
Not Too Far
Connecticut Bachelor Weekend Away:
I surprised my husband for a Bachelor-esque birthday weekend away in Connecticut. Complete with date cards to “Fall into Love,” we stayed at the old, romantic Gwyn Careg Inn, in Pomfret, Connecticut, and I treated my husband to his first skydiving adventure at Skydive Danielson! We capped off the special weekend with a unique dinner at Golden Lamb Buttery that included a rural hayride with cozy blankets, and a guitarist serenading us during the ride. (Unfortunately, the restaurant has now closed after 55 years in business!)
Far
The Greek Honeymoon:
You go over-the-top with everything when it’s your honeymoon! This was truly the most romantic, dream-come-true, experience for both of us. Ten days away in Athens, Mykonos, and Santorini. The highlights were the honeymoon suite at Perivolas, romantic restaurants like Ambrosia, in-room massages and yoga, and a private boat tour around the island.
A Surprise Weekend in Dublin:
I didn’t tell my husband where we were going until he met me at the airport! I packed him a bag and surprised him with a weekend away in Dublin. We stayed at the luxurious hotel, The Shelbourne, had a little bit of fun in an escape room at Escape Dublin, and then enjoyed a romantic meal at one of Dublin’s oldest steakhouses, Shanahan’s On The Green.
Mallorca Magic:
I just can’t get enough of surprising my husband. This time, we jetted off to Mallorca, Spain, for a quick getaway. While there, I surprised him with a helicopter tour around the island. After that, we took the old train (which is an experience in itself) up to Soller, and then had an amazing meal with a breathtaking view at the Belmond La Residencia’s El Olivo.
Hope these get your wheels turning to add a little extra boost of romance or excitement to your life! Check back, as this list will (hopefully) continue to grow!
