This was probably my least favorite recipe in Chrissy Tiegen’s Cravings cookbook. I was really excited for her twist on the huge Thanksgiving and fall classic that is Green Bean Casserole with French’s Crispy Fried Onions. In order to appreciate her version, “Ham and Cheese Green Bean Casserole,” though, you realllllly have to appreciate ham. I found the ham in the dish so overpowering that the best parts, in my opinion, were really lost in the ham-flavored heaviness of this side. I do like the use of fresh green beans over canned, unlike the traditional, and the additions of cheese, onion, and some seasoning. If you’re a true ham-lover, check her original recipe out. Otherwise, look to the modifications below.

How to make it an A+: Skip the ham! If you want some meat, sprinkle some crispy bacon over top with the remaining onions during the last ten minutes of cooking. If you find the overall recipe wayyyy too heavy, opt for one can of mushroom soup, instead of one, and season with extra salt and pepper to taste. Enjoy!
