My husband wanted me to just call this Mom Uptown Original Recipe for Bolognese Pizza with Red Peppers and Goat Cheese “The GOAT,” so that’s all I really need to say about how good this flavorful pie is. He’s my toughest pizza critic!! Details below!
Recipe:
Serves: 4
Active Time: 15 minutes
Total Time, Including Cooking and Cooling: 35 minutes
Ingredients-
Sauce
- 3/4 lb Ground Beef
- 3 Whole Peeled Tomatoes (and a little juice) from a 14 oz can
- 1/2 tsp Salt
- 1/2 tsp Pepper
- 1/2 tsp Sugar
- 1/4 tsp Crushed Red Pepper Flakes
- Pinch Dried Fennel
- Pinch Dried Oregano
- Pinch Dried Basil
- Large handful of Spinach
To Assemble
- 1 lb Whole Wheat Pizza Dough
- 4 ox Goat Cheese, crumbled
- 1 Red Bell Pepper, thinly sliced
- 2 Tbsp Olive Oil, divided
Method-
Preheat oven to 450° F. Coat a baking sheet with 1 Tbsp of the oil.
Make the sauce. Brown the meat in a large skillet over medium heat, breaking up with a wooden spoon. Once brown, add the tomatoes and tomato paste. Simmer while breaking up tomatoes with spoon and tomato sauce evaporates slightly. Add salt, pepper, sugar, pepper flakes, fennel, oregano, and basil. Cook for a couple minutes, stir in spinach until starting to wilt, 30 seconds, or so, and remove sauce from heat.
Roll out and stretch dough to about 12 inches and place on prepared baking sheet. Drizzle with remaining 1 Tbsp of Olive Oil and spread with the meat sauce. Top with the crumbled goat cheese, followed by the red bell pepper slices. Bake until crust is golden, about 15 minutes.
Enjoy!
