Birthday Food!

April 11, 2021

My big girl is four!! She asked and she received! She wanted a day of bacon burgers and fries (and actually flipped through the Cravings Hungry for More cookbook herself) and wanted a chocolate unicorn cake! I thought it was the perfect time to try out this Vanilla Sheet Cake from Martha Stewart Living, have some refreshing Sparkling Grapefruit, Lime & Rosemary Water from Tesco, and close out the day with Chrissy Teigen’s Crispy Bacon & Sweet Pickle Patty Melts and her Salt-&-Vinegar Baked Fries! Details below!

Vanilla Sheet Cake with Chocolate-Ganache Buttercream

Rating: B+

How to make it an A+: The cooking instructions are too long. I would say no more than 30 minutes. Also, I’m not a fan of a light frosting, similar to a mousse. I’d prefer something richer, but that could be just a personal preference. Check it out, and let me know what you think in the comments below!

Sparkling Grapefruit, Lime & Rosemary Water

How to make it an A+: Refreshing, yes, but I needed a little boost of sweetness. I’d add a simple syrup.

Crispy Bacon & Sweet Pickle Patty Melts

Rating: C+

How to make it an A+: This was probably my least favorite Chrissy Teigen recipe ever! It was way too much. I’d up the ground beef, and add way less of everything else!! Especially cayenne. Love the idea of a good patty melt though…

Salt-&-Vinegar Baked Fries

Rating: A-

How to make it an A+: I don’t know if i need vinegar fries in my life. They might have done better with just a splash over being boiled in them. They were cooked perfectly, though, and once I did start, I really could stop eating them…
