James Duigan’s Clean & Lean Pregnancy Guide has a special place in my heart. After feeling lost (having had a terrible experience at my London gym, Virgin Active) during my first trimester, but still determined to have an active and healthy pregnancy, I stumbled into his gym, Bodyism. There I spent the remainder of my pregnancy, and another year after that, safely tending to my body, in a community of positive teachers and clients that put more emphasis on overall wellness than a number on a scale. Upon joining, I received the aforementioned book as part of a welcome package. The book is part health education, part exercise guide, and part cookbook. The recipes are super simple, but diverse enough to hit a bunch of pregnancy cravings in the healthiest ways possible. The Baked Sweet Potato with Spinach and Mozzarella is so filling, and, as a bonus, something my toddler enjoys! I’m so excited to be reading this book again, as it guides me through another pregnancy!
Rating: B+
How to make it an A+: If I wasn’t pregnant, I would swap out the mozzarella for (less healthy, oops) crumbled blue cheese, but (since I am) just be generous with the salt and pepper and drizzle with olive oil.
